Excursion

Monday Dec 14th, 11:30-18:00

Excursion to Concha y Toro winery, its cellars, its production process... including wine tasting. Lunch at a typical restaurant (meat or fish). A special bus service will leave from the Conference site (Beauchef 850) at 11:30. Participation fee: US$40 per person. Since the number of places is limited we ask you to confirm your participation when you register.

Film exhibition

Friday, Dec 18th, 18:00-19:30

The VideoMath Festival took place in Berlin in August during the International Congress of Mathematicians. The organizers initiated a competition to which about 80 mathematical films were sent. About 25 of these films were selected on basis of their mathematical relevance, technical quality, and artistic imagination. They were put together on a film called "The ICM'98 VideoMath Reel". The themes include problems in topology and geometry and their recent solutions, as well as visualizations of classical ideas of Archimedes, Eratosthenes, Pythagoras, and Fibonacci. Topics from high school mathematics and applications of modern numerical methods to real world simulations are addressed. The film will be exhibited at the end of the conference, at Salon Gorbea (indications will be given).

Cocktail

Friday Dec 18th, 19:30-21:00

After the film exhibition, all participants of the conference and school are invited to a closing cocktail.
